Dr. Nho Consult July 2013

So I decided to fly to Chicago and see Dr. Nho on July 29th, 2013. He did double MRAs and Computed Tomography (CT) that morning and we thoroughly went over the results in the afternoon. (I cannot recommend Dr. Nho enough! He is so knowledgeable, attentive and compassionate)

All prepped in my sexy blue cloth shorts. Peter Pan anyone?

FYI: Please make sure to NOT torture yourself with double MRAs in the same day. I literally could not walk and had to be in a wheelchair followed by crutches on our flight home the same night.

The left hip was confirmed to have capsule deficiency where it is not well formed and very thin. He called this a micro instability. The capsule functions as a stabilizer and creates suction in the hip socket. He told me this capsule problem can cause all of glute and trochanter pain. The right hip probably needed another scope for a labral graft but our focus was the left hip since it was impacting me greatly. He really wanted to wait until I was at least 12 months post op to perform surgery on the left hip and I was about 10.5 months at that time. I was on the verge of breaking down in tears not being to fathom putting up with this longer than I needed to.

MRAs, left hip on the top, right hip on the bottom. The dye shouldn't be " bleeding out" like it is.

I am so thankful I had my second mother, Jean, with me for support. She really helped advocate for me and my quality of life. I asked if we could book surgery then cancel if needed to which Dr. Nho agreed. However under this condition it would completely be an exploratory surgery with only 60% success rate (the rate goes down with revisions). Our plan was to have cadaver grafts ready for the labrum and capsule if I didn’t have enough tissue and probably follow up with a capsule plication. We booked surgery for a month later on August 30th, 2013. Things did not change at all for me, as I expected, so I held firm to the surgery date and flew back to Chicago.
